Job Description

The Business Development Specialist is responsible for the Dissertation Archiving and Access (DAAP) content service go-to market strategy and activities, development and execution of the business plan in the UK as well as expanding university participation in the ProQuest Master’s and PhD Theses dissemination program among universities.  This person will also work with internal teams to support customer needs related to services and systems of scholarly masters and PhD theses dissemination. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Expand the DAAP content service by enhancing current practices and supporting regional sales, marketing and other customer-facing activities.
  • Oversees business goals of DAAP.
  • Works with regions and management to assure that sales targets are met.
  • Works closely with regional sales teams in their various structures to ensure DAAP sales, pipeline cultivation, leads creation, and more.
  • Takes the lead in scheduling meetings with key decision-makers and influencers in the library; leads DAAP and dissemination service demonstrations and pre-sales technical consulting.
  • Expand university / graduate school adoption of the ProQuest theses dissemination masters and doctoral degree services through telephone, email and in-person visits to campuses in the UK. 
  • Negotiate complex contracts with universities for the dissemination of dissertations and theses.
  • Support efforts to enhance the Dissertation Publishing program's relationships with the graduate dean organizations, research councils, ministries, influential academics, national repositories, academic consortia and others.

Ideal Qualifications:

  • Bachelors’ degree or higher in related field, plus 5 years’ related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Extensive experience with customer relationship management, especially in the use of technical solutions for academic institutions.
  • Professional experience in complex sales processes.
  • Excellent researching and problem-solving skills, including the ability to analyze, compare, evaluate potential markets and partnerships.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to professionally interact with a diverse blend of personalities to reach resolution and maintain strong relationships.
  • Excellent presentation skills, with extensive experience presenting complex technical solutions to key stakeholders and large audiences.
  • Capacity to learn and master sales-related software programs and knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

  • This position may be based in a variety of ProQuest office locations and may be appropriate for partial remote work, subject to approval.
  • Frequent travel across the UK, estimated at 50% - 70% is required.
  • This position requires weekday (Monday - Friday) attendance with some scheduling flexibility available around core working hours.
