Job Description

The Senior Alliance Manager works to develop and manage long-term, profitable relationships with content and information partners and to secure targeted and profitable Content Licensing Agreements with new content and information providers.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops strategic and tactical plans for successfully recruiting priority content providers to meet product deliverables.   

  • Leads complex commercial negotiations and delivers priority agreements with content and information partners.
  • Negotiates and develops customized License Agreements that ensure best possible commercial terms for ProQuest and accommodate content providers’ needs.
  • Effectively manages and develops strategic relationships with a portfolio of key content and information providers - ensuring adding value and creating positive positioning of ProQuest as a preferred strategic partner.
  • Takes an active and collaborative role in Global Content Alliance team operations, providing guidance and support to junior team members where needed.

  • Consults closely with the Product Management teams across the enterprise to stay abreast of business needs, understand and work within constraints, and optimize the target content mix to ensure the most effective market reception of the product.

  • Understands business objectives of the products and translates them into compelling, persuasive proposals and presentations for recruiting and retaining content partners.

  • Liaises as required with other relevant departments and business units across ProQuest.

  • Prepares reports for senior management to summarize market conditions, analyze problems and propose solutions.

  • Monitors the information industry to maintain an expert understanding of the industry players, their strengths, strategies, market orientation and direction.

    Ideal Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in related field, plus at least 5 years of information industry experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Prior publishing/information industry experience in business development, licensing negotiations, editorial/publishing, or sales and marketing.

  • Successful track record of developing effective face to face presentations, business proposals and closing high level Agreements.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • High levels of personal initiative/proactivity, motivation, and innovation.

  • Strong goal orientation and strong analytical abilities.

  • Strong teamwork skills.

    Qualifications listed below, while not necessarily a requirement for this position in each circumstance, provide additional depth and value to the role.

  • Master’s degree in related field.

  • Written and oral competency in languages other than English.

  • Product Management, Sales, or Marketing experience.

Other important information about this position:

  • This position is typically based in a ProQuest office location and may be appropriate for full or partial remote work, subject to approval.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • This position requires weekday (Monday - Friday) attendance with some scheduling flexibility available around core working hours.
