What will I be doing?

As a Software Architect Lead you will be responsible for the application and system integration of large-scale systems and enterprise initiatives as well as serving as the steward of the overall architecture of the assigned area. You will have the exciting opportunity to develop the architecture roadmap and direction for Alexander Street software development. This includes researching new solutions and approaches, leading architectural discussions, providing technical leadership and mentoring to project and software development teams.  

 

In this position, you will also…

• Architect, design, and implement applications that conform to a business need; master multiple subsystems of a large-scale system, play a key role in ProQuest enterprise projects and set architecture direction for PQ software development.

• Provide technical leadership on large-scale, highly complex projects; resolve issues; perform appropriate level of research to determine solutions; prioritize and suggest technical strategies to achieve the long-term objectives of the department.

• Review requirements, generate architecture documents, provide rough order of magnitude estimates and implement and execute unit, integration and capacity testing.

• Write architecture documentation.

• Propose, develop, review and revise new procedures as needed for the continuing development of high quality systems.

• Support systems architected by others.

• Investigate business opportunities that have no preconceptions or pre-established designs.

Qualified Candidates must have…

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent experience.

• Previous software architecture experience.

• 14 or more years of software development experience.

• 10 or more years of experience writing functional / detailed design / architectural specifications based on user and/or system requirements.

• Ability to support systems after hours or on weekends.

• Understanding of advanced principles of software architecture.

• Masterful understanding and application of several programming languages and tools.

• Masterful understanding of multiple mark-up languages.

• Masterful understanding of system interfaces.

• Ability to work with standard office tools.

• Ability to work with source control systems.

• Ability to work with architecture and design tools.

• Ability to work in an agile environment.

 

It would be awesome if you also had…

• Master’s degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Science.

• Proven ability to lead distributed software development teams.

• Prior experience managing and mentoring a technical team.

• Previous experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies.

• Experience with web technologies, web frameworks and web application design.

• Experience with open-source technologies and streaming media technologies.

• Information Architecture and Cloud Architecture experience.

• Previous experience developing code quality and testing guidelines.

• Experience with mobile application development.

• Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.

• This position is based in ProQuest’s Alexandria, VA office location.

• Occasional travel is required.

• This position requires weekday attendance and may have some flexibility around core working hours.
